Welcome to JoeCubicle.com

Hello and thanks for stopping by the only website on the net made by a cubie just for cubies. Okay, that may not be technically true but, I really am a cubie and I really want all the cubies across the world to visit here regularly, in a good way.
Check out the articles, stories and things I find interesting (here on the front page) and my irregularly updated blog page.

Oct 21, 2009 - My future Engineer.

Click on the image below to go to my Flickr Lego Photo set.

My son has been interested in legos for quite a long time. He builds 'kits' as well as freeform ideas. He is especially proud of the things he builds that he just makes up. He has built so many things that we have not photographed, every night he is sitting on his floor at bedtime getting his last build in. And while we're sitting on his bed reading he is still playing and building, he promises me that he can still listen, he's a good kid.

This is Nathan with our 'kitten' Zucko or Zuko or Zukko (pronounced Zoo-Coe).
We don't how to spell his name and neither does he.

Oct 15, 2009 - 2009 Omaha Marathon

Here is a video I shot a little while back and took my sweet time editing and polishing up. It is from footage I shot at this years Omaha Marathon right here in river city Nebraska. I used a friend of mine I work with to sort of 'anchor' the video around using her as an actor so-to-speak.

Oct 10, 2009 - Three new videos.

I recently shot some footage down at the old market in downtown Omaha at the Farmers Market. It is held every Saturday from May to October, today was the last one for the season. I shot some crowd shots and some of the vendors’ booths. I also got 4 mini-interviews with some of the vendors. Three of them were alright and on one the sound was really low making it unusable really. So far I’ve cut two different videos out of the footage.

The other video is from footage from the Old Market itself, which is in the same area as the Farmers Market. I shot this footage over 2 Saturday nights when the weather was perfect. It was really a great evening.

I sent links to the Farmers Market videos to the people who run the market to see if they have any interest in using them in any capacity.

Old Market - Shot with my Canon HiDef HV20 videocamera.

Farmers Market - Also shot with my Canon HV20.

Oct 10, 2009 - First snowfall of the year.

This morning brought a nice little surprise... snow.

First snow of 2009

I shot some video of it and made a video blog which I have not done for a while.

Here is a link to the video and hopefully it's an embedded link (if I can do it right).

Aug 22, 2009 - Dundee Day in one week

Next week ( Saturday August 29, 2009 ) the Dundee neighborhood will host 'Dundee Day', an all day and night street festival. Click here to view the flyer. It's always a fun day. I will be there as well representing my (sort of) new venture "Blue Sky Photo & Video". I'll have a booth or table set up and will be taking free portraits to be compiled into a photo book. I'll also be shooting video throughout the day to also compile into a video of the day's events and people.

Aug 16, 2009 - Summer Art Festival here in Omaha

About a month (or so) here in Omaha we had the 35th annual Summer Art Festival. It is held downtown every year and there are over 100 'booths' where artists from around the nation come and set up. I got a chance to meet a lot of them and talk about their art and where they're from and other things. I also shot some video and posted it up on YouTube, see the below video. This year it was a little warm, not too humid but the weather was sunny and nice. Last year it stormed pretty bad on Friday night, the first night when all the artists are getting set up. A lot of artists had stuff that got damaged. This year was really great, everyone was really positive and it was a good time for all.

One fast battery powered bike

Look next year for Mission Motors to start selling their new electric motorcyle. They are calling it the 'Mission One'. It promises to reach speeds of 150 MPH, more than enough for most thrill seekers. To read a better article and see more pictures, click here .

Dec 26, 2008 - Merry GeekMas to all

Hey all, Merry Christmas from Geek Land. Geek Land ??? What are you talking about JoeCubicle?
I'll tell you what I'm talking about. I've been a newsletter receiver of Chris Pirillo for many years. I've followed him from his humble beginnings to where he is now, I'm not really sure where he is now but I'm sure it's somewhere really cool, geeky cool!
So to get to the chase, I joined up on Geeks.Pirillo.com . Yup, I got me a sign on and everything. It's a really friendly site. It is said to be a social networking site, and as I go back and read some of the latest forum posts I'm starting to see the similaritites to something along the lines of a Facebookish-ular type thing. Anyway, I left some replies to some post and accepted a few 'friend' invites.
If you are geeky at all you need to get on over and check it out for yourself, you'll be glad you did.
To give Chris Pirillo his geekiness 'due', he describes himself as (direct from his profile page on Geeks):
Geek, Internet Entrepreneur, Hardware Addict, Software Junkie, Book Author, Once TV Show Host, Technology Enthusiast, Shameless Self-Promoter, Tech Conference Coordinator, Early Adopter, Idea Evangelist, Tech Support Blogger , Bootstrapper, Media Personality, Technology Consultant, Thicker Quicker Picker Upper.

Dec 14, 2008 - Tony's really cool site (very artistic)

Here's another really cool site I ran across reading all the 'Google Alerts' I have set up to deliver web content to me through my email.
This guys name has to be Tony, I gathered that from looking at his site. He puts up some really great art that he creates.

Dec 14, 2008 - Is your job causing you anxiety?

I'm not trying to get too personal here but I think I may know a few people who this might apply to. I'm talking about Anxiety and Anxiety Attacks...
Here is a nice article from Healthandremedies.com about the topic. Consider this a little PSA fro JOE.

Here is a link to the aritcle.

10 GREAT things you forgot Gmail can do

I've been using Gmail for a long time now and have always loved it. When I saw this link I thought... yah, I know all these things but I'll look anyway. Besides, it was on Lifehacker.com and they have great articles so off I clicked.
Wow, I was surprised. There are some things that I did indeed forget, some things I did know about and use, and some things that I did not know about.
If you use Gmail, check out this link. If you do not use Gmail you should get an account, use it for a while then click this link and check out all the cool features.
Enough of me... click this link.

Dec 02, 2008 - Shame on Y'all

I didn't think I'd go on a rant on my site but I am absolutely appalled at the events on 'Black Friday'. 3 people are now pushing daisies where they weren't days previous. The poor man tampled at the WalMart didn't deserve it, dying on the floor of a WalMart. Here's a blurb from an article on the two men who died at a Southern California ToysRUs.

Moreno and Meza shot each other to death as parents and children shopping for holiday gifts jammed the store, said Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez. Two guns were recovered near the men's bodies, authorities said. Witnesses said the men were with two women who got into a fight that escalated into the fatal shootings, which sent terrified shoppers and their children scrambling for cover.

I won't go on too much about Runaway Commercialism or the death-dealing fanaticism of 6 AM doorbusters who need another TV. Even before all this happened, I could not stand the mentallity of early morning shoppers waiting in line to get more crap they don't need with money they don't have from a job they can't stand. I'm done, it's unfortunate what happened and I hope it's not an indicator of things to come.

Nov 08, 2008 - Moleskinerie.com

Here's a site I check regularly, thought I'd share. It's called www.Moleskinerie.com, a site about all things Moleskine, the very nice pocket sized notebook.

Nov 05, 2008 - Get your creative juices flowing

I am a big advocate of journaling. I started way back in '91 or '92 I think. Right after I got my first PC in college. Beside playing solitaire and witing papers for school about Virology and other fantastic biological and future-useless topics (useless for me at least).
I wanted to do more with my pre-internet computer so I started writing about what I did that day... I was journaling.
Since I've done it for a long time it is really interesting to go back and read entries from way back. Somewhere along the way I bought a hard cover blank sketch book to write my journal and I'm getting close to filling it up. I also bought the same type of book to take notes in lectures. For lectures I got the bigger size sketch book, I like to write, take notes and doodle and I HATE lined paper with a passionate passion.

Here is a picture of the sketch book I'm talking about. They are tough and can be taken just about anywhere.

This topic is not too difficult to comprehend so I'll cut it short and leave you with a couple of links to two guys who are in my opinion "Professional Journaleurs", Danny Gregory and Dan Price. They are two very creative guys and both are big advocates of journaling as well as adding drawings to your journal. I do this and add small daily objects like concert or opera ticket stubs if that is something, just an idea.

Nov 05, 2008 - Are you "Working for the Man"

A new book by Jeffrey Yamaguchi (website, it's all about working for the man! Instead of making you suffer my non-existant skills in describing a book just read below what Michelle Kerns wrote for Examiner.com).

Amazon link for the Book: Working for the Man.

Nov 05, 2008 - Gas drops below $2.00

For the first time in a long time we can enjoy a much more affordable price for a gallon of gas. I can finally fill up an empty tank for less than $50.00, I would like it around $30 but I have a 25 gallon tank.
I think it is an interesting cooincidence that gas dropped below $2.00 on election day. To counter that, accross the nation some places no doubt are still above $2 and I heard on Monday that somewhere in Kansas it was already $1.99. Change already???

Nov 05, 2008 - Barack Obama - President Elect

Congratulations are in order for Barack Obama and his campaign. Last night he won the 2008 United States Presidential election.

Oct 22, 2008 - Miss 'Stoned' Teen Louisiana

Okay... here is what NOT to do when you are Miss Teen Louisiana or what NOT to do when walking out on a restaurant bill without paying. Now that I really think about it, here is what NOT to do period!

Don't get crowned Miss Teen Anystate, Don't enter a restaurant with the intention of Dining-and-Dashing, Don't Dine-and-Dash and leave your purse behind with your ID and .... a BAG OF WEED!

And then... come back later to see if your purse is in the lost and found. Busted!

I'm not a MENSA either, but I know I'd play a different strategy, one that involves paying for my meal, especially if I were stoned while doing so. Was the other girl she was eating with the same Teen Beauty Queen who waxed profound about our education system and maps, Africa and the Iraq. They should have come up with a better plan, um... such as... holding very still for a year without saying or doing anything during their reign so as not to draw un-wanted attention or have your title stripped and your crown taken.

Pardon me for being an elitist snob, but Mrs. Gump said it nicely: "Stupid is as stupid does".

Oct 22, 2008 - Free Online 'Daily' Gaming

A friend of mine (co-worker actually) is a big fan of mental-skill games and runs a website called Free Daily Games . net. The site offers such games as: Sudoku, Hitori, Comparison, Odd/Even and Consecutive.

July 30, 2008 - A couple of great vids.

Hey Cubies, I'm such a rock star that I don't have time to update my site very often, common problem among programmers. Here is a little diversion for ya', I've been back into a little harder music lately, so here are some links to some Slipknot videos:

Psychosocial

Before I Forget

Wait and Bleed

Enjoy!

May 23, 2008 - Starbuckers

For those of you who love sociology this is a great take on a group of people many run into on a daily basis, if you ask me, Starbucks deseves them.

May 16, 2008 - New Site Activity

I read somewhere that if you are not going to update your personal web site for a while it is polite to put up a post saying so. Well, I didn't do that because I did not know I was going to space-off my site for 2 straight months. WOW ! Anyway, I'm doing it nowwith another link to some great Firefox addons, I really like the flippy screen tab effect the the PicLens addon, you'll have to read up on the PicLens, I'm still figuring it out. The flippy tab thing works but I think I'm going to disable it as I've had it on for about a month and I get it, it's cool, I'm not. Try them out, drop me a line and let me know what you think. Go to my JoeCubicle product page and by a t-shirt.

Feb 22, 2008 - Email Page *** NEW FEATURE ***

Look over to the left and you might just see a new link to the 'Email' page. If you follow the link you will have the opportunity to send me an email (me being Joe Cubicle). Do so and let me know what you think, about anything.

Feb 22, 2008 - Video Lectures on 'Ted'

I (re)found a site the other week... Ted.Com, there are a number of really interesting lectures available for viewing. They are interesting and entertaining in the same. Their tag line is: Inspired talks by the world's greatest thinkers and doers. I ran across this site a while back and was interested and vowed I'd go back and check it out more thoroughly, well I finally did when I saw a link to a certain lecture. For a fun 'lecture' I suggest watching Mathmagic, that guy is a nut! Cube Power!

Feb 21, 2008 - Last night's eclipse

I hope you all got to see the lunar eclipse last night, I did. I wanted to shoot a little video but couldn't find the dang tripod and the dang little scewy-ony thing that attaches a camera to the tripod. I filmed it anyway and I won't abuse anyone enough to upload that video. Btw... Saturn herself was very clear and easy to see with the unclothed eye and I did get that on video. I really need to find the tripod, I've got two video gigs next week.

Feb 16, 2008 - A little site redesign

Tonight I had a little site reorganization, no biggie, main change is all the cool web-stuff in under the Sites, Links & Utilities page.

Feb 15, 2008 - The day after

Not too much goin' in here, I'm currently trying to get the email sign up text box and submit button working but am having some trouble. I've used MS Access before and know how to get that going but I'm going to get SQL Server working if it kills me. So look for that functionality to be working in the near future. It's down there on left, it doesn't work yet.

Feb 13, 2008 - A couple new additions.

I put up a few additions to the UsefulSites page:
- A nice grouping of PhotoShop tutorials.
- A decent article on PC/Laptop security.
- A link to a Wikipedia page with TONS of open source applications.
- And a link to a batch file renamer, everyone needs one of those.
- Enjoy!

Feb 02, 2008 - History & Future of the Cubicle

I found a great article on the history of the cubicle. I take it that the 'Father' of the cubicle is man named Herman Miller. The article is named: Cubicles: The great mistake. There is lots of good and interesting information in it. It is hosted on CNN's money site.
Here is the link to the article.

Jan 29, 2008 - Will Ferral and John McEnroe video

If you are a true fan of the wacky and insane Will Ferrol you will love this video. And yes, I know that I don't know how to spell Will Ferril's last name.
While you're there watching the funny video (what other kind of video is there on the internet?) cruise around Trend Hunter.

Jan 29, 2008 - Arrrrrgghhh

Anyone ever feel like the guy in the middle cube? I'm not saying I do or have, I'm just sayin'.

Jan 16, 2008 - YouTube Video Editing commercial produced and uploaded

I produced a 3 minute video acting as a commercial (if you will) offering my video editing services. It is uploaded to YouTube and ready to view.

Jan 05, 2008 - YouTube Claymation

Here is a little project Audrey (my daughter) made a day or two before or after Christmas day, actually I think we did it ON Christmas day. Audrey and Nathan were playing with clay that Nathan got. We whipped out the digital camera and the tripod and shot about 30 pics of the clay character that Audrey made. I just did the slideshow and put the music and credits to it. I use Adobe Primiere Elements, and it uses me. Then we put it on YouTube.

Jan 01, 2008 - Happy New Year

So far we are having the coldest day of the year but seeing that it is the first day of the year that is not such a huge feat. But really, today is very cold. Here in Omaha NE we had our first murder of the year just two hours into the new year, heard that one on the news this morning. I am still on vacation for 6 more days till I return to the cube, in a strange way I kinda miss it. The mark of a true cubie, we actually like it in a wee small way.

Dec 23, 2007

The site is still evolving and growing so please hang with me, and please ignore any 'nor ipslum ad ignitum' stuff.

First Update

Joe Cubicle is finally up on the web. I had this URL registered many years ago and did nothing with it and forgot to re-register the domain name. Well that was dumb!! A few weeks ago I was looking at domain names and saw that it was still taken (Friday). The following Monday morning I was checking again for what reason I do not know… and it was AVAILABLE! So here it is. Good things come to those who are dumb and wait.
