Mid Summer 2008

July 30, 2008 - Another good 2+ months since an entry, not like I've not been on the net or anything. I'm still kicking and trying to stay cool, working hard and all, very hard. Yesterday was a 15 hour day, 15 straight! I'm beat this morning.

Back from ???

051608 - Two months and five days since my last blog update. Hmmm... I wonder what could make me so ding dong busy? Mabye its all the work I have to do. My mowing business woke up right on time like it does every year, although it was pretty cool for the first part of April I still had to get out there and hit the yards. Other than being so busy like a good American should be all is pretty much fine, we are all in good health and my 7 yr old son showed up after being missing for an hour and a half (I won't go into that). Speaking of my son, baseball is in full 'swing', he's doing fine and having fun. Tomorrow we should be getting out to go to the golf driving range, he's been bugging me to take him golfing.
Work is going well, tickets roll in and they roll out.
I've been putting some video style 'blogs' up on YouTube (I wonder what the account name is???). They are alright, I have 2 subscribers at this point. I've also been putting posts up on Craigslist trying to get someone to hire me as a videographer, I know that sounds really fishy since you can read some pretty racy post in the personals but I'm not about that and state it in my posts. At the bottom of my posts I wrote that I will only video stuff that you would be comfortable watching sitting next to your Grandmother. I thought I had a really good idea of video'ing someone's house that they are trying to sell. Then they could put the video up on YouTube and ANYONE could watch a cool walkthrough of the house for sale, like they were actually there, how cool is that?! We'll see what happens.

Spring Forward

030908 - The clocks were all changed around the house this morning, I swear it comes faster every year. I've not been terribly busy but just busy enough to tell myself I've had no time to blog. All is well in cubicle land, the code comes and the code goes.

Last few days of Leap Year 2008

022608 - We are drawing to a close on the last few days of a leap year February, what joy. Tonight I finished reading a Lemony Snicket book to my son (Heimlich Hospital). We also went to the archery club tonight where Joe junior scored 3 bullseyes from 3 different rounds. We had some snow last night and some howling winds. I went out this morning and cleared the snow. Today was not the best day in cubie-land. Working on problem tickets sometimes is not the most fun I can think of, especially when other people are involved. I guess that encompasses about everything in our lives. It'll all be better soon, it always is.

The phantom of the opera is here.....

022108 - It is a cold week here in the heartland, the kids' school was called yesterday due to the cold, thank goodness the internet doesn't get called off due to anything short of server upgrades. I DVR'd the Daytona 500, no reason for that bit of sharing but I did and am starting to enjoy watching NASCAR even though it's once a year and it takes me 2 weeks to watch a race. Like I stated earlier, I went to the VanHalen concert last week, and the other night my family and I went to see The Phantom of the Opera at the Orpheum Theater right here in cold old Omaha NE. It was a fantastic show! So I'm kind of in the concert mind again (I went to 1,000 concert btween the ages of 14 and 21)*. Bon Jovi and Daughtry were in town just this last Monday night, I didn't go but it sounded fun. So anyway, I think I might score a pair of Tom Petty tickets for this June or July, he and the Heartbreakers will be in town then, more randomness but still a blog-fact. And what the hell is up with those big hoop-like things people are jamming in their ear lobes? They must be getting paid, 'cause it aint pretty.

Checkmate

Feb 16, 2008 - Today my son and I were in our first chess tournament. I played just two games in the adult (non rated) section. It took a long time for each of the rounds. My games only took about 15 to 20 minutes, I was checkmated twice but they were good games. I met a couple of great kids and some nice guys, it was a lot of fun. There were a lot of people (kids) there. There must have been 100 kids there. It was an interesting experience.

Yea!

Feb 13, 2008 - Monday night I finally finished the big project I was working on for the last 2 months. It felt really good. I still have a little cleanup to do and some issues that came up 2 weeks ago when I was on call but had to defer because I had no time to work on them. I still have plenty to do, no worlidays yet.

Van Halen Concert

Feb 04, 2008 - Tonight I went to see Van Halen with my brother. It was a really good show. They came out and did their thing! It was a huge pleasure to see them play again. I think this is the 4th time I've seen them since I attended my very 1st conert in 1981, which happened to be the one and only Van Halen at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. They were no spring chickens but the rock did flow none the less. The sound was good, Eddie played his butt off the whole show, David Roth was his old self without the HUGE jumps, Alex was on the drum kit doing what he's been doing for so long. Michael Anthony was not on bass, Wolfgang VanHalen took that part and there was no lacking in that department. Wolfgang hit every note as far as I could tell. It was fun.

One more week

Feb 04, 2008 - Wow, what a Superbowl game we had tonight. My Mom invited us over for some pizza and to watch the game. We got there and my brother was there, that was a nice suprise! We ate some pizza and watched the game. It was a little boring for a little while all 7 to 3 like. The last 10 minutes were fantastic. By that time it was 9:00 and time to get the kids home to bed.
Concerning the big project at work... we have been given 1 more week to develop and get it in to testing. That was quite some good news I can tell you. I've put in a lot of hours over the last 2 weeks. I slept in yesterday until 10:00 from midnight the night before. I'm talking 10 straight hours. I haven't done that in 10 or more years. Back to the cube in the morning, till then.

A little better

Jan 29, 2008 - I've been making a little more progress on my project at work. I know this doesn't mean a lot to too many people but it does to me! I know there are a lot of cubies out there who go through this stuff quite often. This is what a lot of people refer to as STRESS.

Behind

Jan 27, 2008 - Its late Sunday night and I'm up working on the site like a good Joe. I'm tired and want to get to bed but I've blown off working on the site for almost a week. Whats worse, I added some things a few days ago and didn't uploaded that changes.
At work, back in the Mother-Cube, I'm working on this copy application and its killing me. This is the 1st project I've seen where there are dev assignments to the entire team for one project and noone is done with their changes yet.
Another thing, I'm on call this week and I got paged yesterday as well as this morning (5:30 AM). I had to go in and kick off a file that had hung up, then babysit it for about an hour or so.
After I got the files run I worked on my part of the monster project. I can't wait to be done with it. Everyone on out team is a little behind where we should be, but it will happpen.

First week back to work

Jan 14, 2008 - Actually today was the start of my 2nd week back to work. Last week was a challenge to say the least. I had a bunch of re-writes (we call 'em tickets) to fix for something I put into testing before I went on vacation. It filled all of last week. Today I finished up all but one of the 10 tickets, the last one is a bit of a challenge and I have till the 25th to take care of it. In the meantime... I'm about 10% done with a 170 hourr project that is due in testing on Feb 5. All the developers on out team have tasks for this mammoth, Ive never seen that before.

Another problem I was dealing with today was a sore back, I mean SORE!
Dang!!
I had a little pain Saturday, a little more Sunday and this morning woke up to near-excruciating pain. I called our family clinic and asked for an appointment. I scored one at 3:00 PM. I just had to make it till 2:15 then take off. I made it through the day and saw the Doc. I just have a 'pulled' muscle. I was walking funny, very funny! I felt like a chump but pain is pain. I'm at home and taking at least tomorrow off, I'll see about Thursday when I wake up Thursday.

Oh yeah... the 'Check Engine' light came on in my truck Saturday.
Check that thang already.

Winter Vacation '07 - '08

Jan 03, 2008 - I'm still on vacation from the job for another few days. I go back Monday (today is Friday). I finally got this video project that I've been working on to a point where I can start duping the DVDs that we have orders for. I've never had so many picky little issues with something that I've done so many times before with no probelm, but that's all my problem. So, I've got a little time to update the site in which I added a 'Links' page. So far it just has the one link, a great desktop wallpaper site, you should really go check it out.
